bistro bistro.

Well, my friend Nicole and I went to her restaurant Bistro Bistro in Kingston for lunch/dinner the other day and the food was great. I order Penna Alla Vodka, which is totally typical. She ordered this crazy Turkey Meatloaf, which at first I thought was a yucky meal, but when I tasted it – Wow was I wrong. That Turkey Meatloaf was amazing. It was spicy and had the perfect amount of seasoning. When we go out next time, I told Nicole to remind me to order that. Number one, anything that has the word meatloaf in it is something I usually steer clear from, but hey, that was some pretty good loaf. It came with a nice spinach salad and penne noodles in some light oil with some vegetables. Pretty, pretty good non? Well, I know what I am looking forward to – my next dinner outing with Nicole! Haha!

love for pasta.

There are many types of food I love, but pasta is my favorite. I have a lot of love for pasta. (:

flu.

I just turned the corner to feeling better after a horrible week with the flu. Ugh. Let me just say, it was pretty bad. I am glad to see it go. I thought I would never recover. Over the past week however, I did realize how much being sick affected my appetite. My diet consisted of crackers, fruit bar popsicles, water, orange juice and macaroni. I didn't seem to be hungry, which is so out of the ordinary for me. Valentine's day was also last week, which totally stunk. I had lovely reservations at Top of the 80s, which by the way is an amazing restaurant with an amazing view. I picked around my food, but ended up bringing most of it home. I kind of knew that would happen in advance.

On a lighter note: I went to a dinner party at my boyfriend's relatives house and had some fabulous chicken and lasagna. The chicken was breaded and very soft. Supposedly my boyfriend's uncle used to be a chef, so no wonder the food was to die for. :)

grandma!

This is my grandma, isn't she lovely and my sister Shannon. (Note, she isn't always that tan. This picture is taken during the summer). I recently have seen some resemblance between my sister and my mom, and then my mom and my grandma -so who knows - maybe this is who my sister might grow up to be! (Haha!) My grandma will be my main focus for my Web site. She doesn't know this yet, but I think she will enjoy the idea. She doesn't know the first thing about computers - not like I do, but I am hoping she will like the idea. I have been thinking about layouts this weekend, trying to find a really cool cooking site that I maybe could steal some ideas from, but I haven't found any that really strike my fancy. Maybe I am being too picky, but whatever. I'll figure it out. I am guessing my Web site isn't going to be straight recipes, since my grandma usually cooks the same things over and over again. I want to include some grandmotherly advice of course, and my blog, maybe some photos. blah blah blah. This is me just working out my thoughts.

manwich.

I think in order to start cooking I need to expand my horizons with what I digest because simply my stomach is probably sick of the same things. I wouldn't blame it. So tonight, my boyfriend and I are cooking manwich. I have never had it so I think my taste buds will be very surprised.

I am truthfully looking forward to trying new things. Heck, I even ate a hot wing on Superbowl Sunday. I don't think it isn't so much that I am a picky eater... I just am not experienced with new food. At home I eat at the same restaurants and I know exactly what I am going to get. The menu is basically memorized, and alas I usually order the same things anywho.

Well it's official however. I am turning over a new leaf starting with manwich.

confessional.

It seems I may have a slight obsession with Chinese food. I know, I know it is really, insanely bad for you, but I can't help but love the greasiness. My friends and I go to the buffet all the time. We used to go to the one near Sam's Club, until that sadly went out of business. The guy that worked there even knew our names and every time we went there to eat he would join in our conversation, in an no-odd way of course. When he ended up leaving, he left us all gift certificates, which was nice and of course we used them right away! ( : I am kind of sad that placed closed down. Now we travel up to the one near Wal-Mart. I guess that one is okay too....

I also am in love with Taco Bell, but that is a whole other story.

Hopefully with this new found interest in cooking those bad habits will float away.

it's changed.

I wanted to do a photography Web site, but it looks like it is turning into a no-can-do. Instead, I chose cooking, which is something I am not educated on...at all. My grandma knows a lot however, and has basically lived in the kitchen all her life. Unfortunately my mother did not pick up the skill as easy as her mother did, for at home we live off of take out orders and restaurants. Both are one hundred percent Italian and one hundred percent different, kitchen savoy wise. Cooking is something I have always tried to dabble myself in, but I, like my mom never got the hang of it.

I live off frozen foods and fruit snacks. Not so much the best diet in the world, but I am willing to change. I would love to know how to cook, and I am not blaming my mom but since she only uses her kitchen as a storage container I fear I will never learn.

I think this is a great chance to spend sometime with my grandma and obviously get to know her secret recipes! Maybe I will even be able to teach my mom something in the meantime!
